JL 2T Challenge Send-Off

This Saturday (5th September) saw our valiant 2T Challenge riders setting off from the Ashford branch of Jack Lilley Ltd for the first part of their epic journey (to Portsmouth to catch the ferry to St Malo) aboard their 250cc two-stroke bikes.  The challenge was open to all 2-stroke machines up to 250cc, but in the end all the participants ended up on 250cc machines. These included 3 Yamaha TDR250s, 3 MZ ETZ250s, a Yamaha RD250LC and a 1976 Suzuki GT250 – the oldest bike in the group.  Unfortunately one of the riders – Brian – had a recent garage fire in which his 1960s Ariel Leader suffered some damage. Although it is repairable, there just wasn’t enough time to get the bike up and running in time for the challenge. Under the circumstances, the other riders decided Brian should still take part in the event, albeit on his Triumph Thruxton.

The riders set off on schedule at 2pm and disappeared down the road, Portsmouth-bound, in a haze of blue smoke with the heady scent of Castrol R not far behind!  Scroll down the page to see the photos…
