Triumph have announced the all-new 2016 Speed Triple range today – the Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R. Both bikes have a new version of the iconic 1050cc triple engine which has been subject to 104 changes, giving increased power, increased torque, plus an increase in fuel efficiency of 10%. The new engine is also 20% narrower than the previous unit, giving the bike a sleeker profile.
With an eye on Euro4 emissions regulations, the engine has been heavily re-developed – changes include ride-by-wire throttle bodies, new combustion chamber and cylinder head and a new ‘slip assist’ clutch. A redesigned exhaust system gives a 70% increase in flow rate.
The bikes have new headlamps, redesigned bodywork plus a number of electrical upgrades including rider modes, switchable ABS and traction control. The signature twin headlamps now feature an air intake to drive increased airflow to the engine, At the back is a new tailpiece inspired by the Daytona 675R.
There are 5 rider modes on the new bikes – Road, Rain, Sport, and Track, plus a configurable rider mode that allows the rider to configure the riding characteristics to their own personal style and riding conditions.
The new Speed Triple R comes with carbon fibre front mudguard and tank infills, a host of billet-machined parts, plus higher-spec Öhlins suspension front and rear.
Colours for the Speed Triple S are either Diablo Red or Phantom Black, whilst the Speed Triple R will be available in Crystal White or Matt Graphite with red highlights and detailing.
Prices have yet to be confirmed by Triumph, but the S model is expected to be in the region of £10,199, with the higher-spec R around £11,499. Delivery is expected to be around early April 2016.
